Breakfast @ De Royalle Cafe

Had breakfast at De Royalle Cafe yesterday morning. Initial plan was to head over to Patisserie Cake Shop in Mata-Mata since I was doing grocery shopping at Supa Save. But decided not to since I am heading to Yayasan Hua Ho to run a bit of errand. So, ended up having breakfast at De Royalle Cafe. For your information, De Royalle Cafe is the first 24 hours cafe in Brunei. I’ve never tried De Royalle Cafe’s breakfast before until today. I usually went there with Jia for supper with some of her friends. I was the only patron when I arrived this morning.

I had a breakfast set meal of Scrambled Eggs with Bread and it comes with a complimentary free drink. You can choose from orange juice, tea or coffee. And I opted for the healthier option – orange juice. My first impression was that most of the cafes in Brunei only serve orange juice from Just Juice or some other brands. But De Royalle Cafe serves freshly squeezed orange juice with no sugar at all! So, it’s extremely healthy!

It doesn’t take long for my Scrambled Egg with Bread was served. The scrambled eggs were perfectly done but without flavoring. I think it would have tasted better with a little bit of salt and black pepper powder. Bread was soft. A set of Scrambled Egg with Bread costs B$5.90.

Review: RMS Portview Restaurant

Jia, Eldie and I had a belated birthday celebration at RMS Portview Restaurant last Friday night. It was Eldie’s birthday last week but I wasn’t able to make it so I made up to him with a belated birthday dinner. It’s fasting month and hence most of the restaurants in Brunei are offering special promotions, be it 50% off or buffet at a very low price. RMS Portview Restaurant is doing their usual 50% off on all pizzas and pastas. I thought it’s gonna be full house on Friday night so I called in few days earlier and reserved a table for three. There were only a few tables which were occupied by patrons when we arrived. Most of the patrons had steamboat instead of Italian cuisine.

A picture of the birthday boy before I start. Hahaha … 🙂

Let’s dig in, shall we?

1. Funghi Ripieni Al Forno (B$14.00)

The first time when I dined at RMS Portview Restaurant, it was with another friend and he ordered this to share as appetizer. I find it to be quite nice last time. So, I repeated the order again. Unfortunately, it wasn’t as good as I remembered it was. They were “oven baked stuffed mushrooms with cream cheese and spinach served with tomato coulis and salad bouquet.” Jia and I agreed that their stuffed mushrooms were too bland this time and she claimed that the mushrooms tasted a bit bitter. The vegetables salad at the side was good though.

2. Cannelloni Di Pollo E Funghi (B$15.90)

The birthday boy had this for his main course. It’s “baked homemade pasta tube filled with roasted chicken meat and fresh mushrooms served with cream and cheese sauce.” At first, this was the main course that I wanted to order but then Eldie said that he wanted to order that too. So, I let him have it and I ordered something else. I am glad that I did not have that coz I personally think that there is nothing special with it. The roasted chicken wrapped inside was rather bland but it was juicy. However, Eldie said that the mushroom sauce was flavorful and it blended well with the Cannelloni.

3. Rigatoni Tuna (B$15.50)

This is what I ordered for myself after Eldie told me that he wanted to have Cannelloni Di Pollo E Funghi. It’s rigatoni cooked with tuna chunks and pasta sauce. The pasta sauce was creamy and flavorful. Amount of tuna chunks were pretty generous. Both Jia and Eldie advised me to have this while it’s still hot coz it’s gonna get icky when it turned cold. So, I did as advised. This is a highly recommended dish if you do not know what to have at RMS Portview Restaurant.

4. Fettuccine Carbonara (B$15.50)

Jia’s main course. The fettuccine was cooked al dente but it was rather bland. Portion was pretty generous, hence Jia was unable to finish the whole thing.

5. Hawaiana (B$15.50)

We had also ordered a regular sized pizza to share. Unlike Pizza Hut, the pizzas at RMS Portview Restaurant were thin crusted. The crust was a bit too hard for my liking. Hawaiana is topped with “tomato sauce, grated cheese, diced pineapple and chicken pastrami.” I liked the ingredients though and they were generous especially the grated cheese.

Overall Rating: 7 out of 10

Verdict: Good customer service and ambiance. Perfect place for occasion like Valentine Day. But in terms of their food, I think most of them were quite bland apart from my Rigatoni Tuna. Price wise, they were much more affordable compared to Savy’s Brasserie. If you wanted to experience fine dining without burning your pockets, you can always consider RMS Portview Restaurant.

Some other random pictures that we took at the restaurants. 😛

This is how the restaurant looked like from our table. Our table has a clear view of the water village at night.

A cute picture of Jia and Eldie together.

Simply Bello @ Bello Cafe, Brunei

The three of us – Jia, Eldie and I went to Bello Cafe for dessert after our dinner at RMS Fratini Portview. I was supposed to go Bello Cafe with my Sister during the time when she was back to Brunei for two weeks. But it was already closing time when we arrived Bello Cafe. So, I asked Jia if she wanted to go Bello Cafe for dessert tonight. She said okay coz she also wanted to try their Chocolate Lava Pudding. Chocolate Lava Pudding is one of Bello Cafe’s bestselling food.

Chocolate Lava Pudding is a chocolate cupcake drizzled with thickened chocolate cream on the inside. I like it coz it’s not sweet. I think they used dark chocolate instead of  the usual milk chocolate, which is a healthier option. One piece of Chocolate Lava Pudding is B$5.00 and you can choose to have vanilla ice cream on the side but it costs B$1.80 extra.

The resolution of the above picture is not good but you can actually see the chocolate thickened cream flowing out. This dessert is best served hot.

Price: B$5.00

Another dessert which we had at Bello Cafe is their American Apple Cake. I wanted to try their Creme Brulee but it was sold out already. Unfortunately, their American Apple Cake is not as good as their Chocolate Lava Pudding. The apple chunks were soft though but the sugar level of the cake was too much. The three of us couldn’t finish it and half slice of the cake was left untouched in the end. None of us wanna end up being diabetic. Hahaha …

Moving Back In!

Dear readers,

Sorry for the inconvenience that I am causing you all here. I am well aware that I had posted an entry saying that I will permanently move my blog to Blogger. But then I realized that Blogger may have the kind of themes that I wanted but in terms of the interface, it’s not as user friendly as WordPress. WordPress may not offer as much widgets as Blogger does, but I think I still prefer WordPress more.

So, I am gonna stick faithfully with WordPress from now onwards. I shouldn’t have rushed into removing all my previous blog entries yesterday, and now my blog is empty. *sigh*

Till then … Ciao~~

Moved!

Dear fellow readers,

This will be the last blog entry that I will be writing on this blog coz I am moving to ……

http://dailysnippetsoflife.blogspot.com

You must be wondering why I decided to switch to Blogger instead of sticking with WordPress. I do like WordPress but there are quite a lot of restrictions. And it’s hard to find a template that I really liked unless I hire some professional designer to do one for me, which I think is unnecessary for the time being.

Anyways, I will be deleting all my blog entries in this blog and they had all been transferred to my new blog. So, nothing is gone missing.

So, I shall see you all in my new blog!

Till then … Ciao~~~
