Jia, Eldie and I had a belated birthday celebration at RMS Portview Restaurant last Friday night. It was Eldie’s birthday last week but I wasn’t able to make it so I made up to him with a belated birthday dinner. It’s fasting month and hence most of the restaurants in Brunei are offering special promotions, be it 50% off or buffet at a very low price. RMS Portview Restaurant is doing their usual 50% off on all pizzas and pastas. I thought it’s gonna be full house on Friday night so I called in few days earlier and reserved a table for three. There were only a few tables which were occupied by patrons when we arrived. Most of the patrons had steamboat instead of Italian cuisine.
A picture of the birthday boy before I start. Hahaha … 🙂
Let’s dig in, shall we?
1. Funghi Ripieni Al Forno (B$14.00)

The first time when I dined at RMS Portview Restaurant, it was with another friend and he ordered this to share as appetizer. I find it to be quite nice last time. So, I repeated the order again. Unfortunately, it wasn’t as good as I remembered it was. They were “oven baked stuffed mushrooms with cream cheese and spinach served with tomato coulis and salad bouquet.” Jia and I agreed that their stuffed mushrooms were too bland this time and she claimed that the mushrooms tasted a bit bitter. The vegetables salad at the side was good though.
2. Cannelloni Di Pollo E Funghi (B$15.90)

The birthday boy had this for his main course. It’s “baked homemade pasta tube filled with roasted chicken meat and fresh mushrooms served with cream and cheese sauce.” At first, this was the main course that I wanted to order but then Eldie said that he wanted to order that too. So, I let him have it and I ordered something else. I am glad that I did not have that coz I personally think that there is nothing special with it. The roasted chicken wrapped inside was rather bland but it was juicy. However, Eldie said that the mushroom sauce was flavorful and it blended well with the Cannelloni.
3. Rigatoni Tuna (B$15.50)

This is what I ordered for myself after Eldie told me that he wanted to have Cannelloni Di Pollo E Funghi. It’s rigatoni cooked with tuna chunks and pasta sauce. The pasta sauce was creamy and flavorful. Amount of tuna chunks were pretty generous. Both Jia and Eldie advised me to have this while it’s still hot coz it’s gonna get icky when it turned cold. So, I did as advised. This is a highly recommended dish if you do not know what to have at RMS Portview Restaurant.
4. Fettuccine Carbonara (B$15.50)
Jia’s main course. The fettuccine was cooked al dente but it was rather bland. Portion was pretty generous, hence Jia was unable to finish the whole thing.
5. Hawaiana (B$15.50)
We had also ordered a regular sized pizza to share. Unlike Pizza Hut, the pizzas at RMS Portview Restaurant were thin crusted. The crust was a bit too hard for my liking. Hawaiana is topped with “tomato sauce, grated cheese, diced pineapple and chicken pastrami.” I liked the ingredients though and they were generous especially the grated cheese.
Overall Rating: 7 out of 10
Verdict: Good customer service and ambiance. Perfect place for occasion like Valentine Day. But in terms of their food, I think most of them were quite bland apart from my Rigatoni Tuna. Price wise, they were much more affordable compared to Savy’s Brasserie. If you wanted to experience fine dining without burning your pockets, you can always consider RMS Portview Restaurant.

Some other random pictures that we took at the restaurants. 😛

This is how the restaurant looked like from our table. Our table has a clear view of the water village at night.

A cute picture of Jia and Eldie together.
