Review: Yugo Barbeque & Shabu Shabu Restaurant

Couldn’t sleep well yesterday night despite I had flu pill before going to bed. Woke up before 7:00a.m. in the morning with a blocked nose. Went out for breakfast at Lian Fu Restaurant & Catering with parents in the morning and did a little bit of grocery shopping later on before going home to get ready meeting friend for lunch. Drove to his office and picked him up to go Yugo Barbeque & Shabu Shabu Restaurant. He insisted that I drive him today since he had been my personal chauffeur all the time before I got my driver’s license.

Anyways, Yugo Barbeque & Shabu Shabu Restaurant was only opened about a month ago. When I first heard of this restaurant, it was when they were having a job fair at BRIDEX about few months ago. I searched online for this restaurant but received no search result until when a friend posted a picture of them having a meal at Yugo on Facebook before the restaurant was officially opened for business.

The restaurant was located at the far end of Gadong Central building. It was located on the next block of KFC. It was easily spotted when you were driving in from the junction coz the signage was pretty obvious with it’s red color theme.

As you can see from the above pictures, the color theme of the restaurant is mostly black and red. The restaurant is kinda spacious but the dining area is not as big as Shabulicious Restaurant though.

Anyhow, time for food pictures!

Price: B$3.00

Had Mushroom Soup for my soup base. Friend claimed that the soup is full of mushroom flavor and he liked it. To me, I think it was only so so. The mushroom enhanced the flavor of the soup and it turned sweet. I am not a soup person, so soup is not exactly my cup of tea. Hahaha …

You can choose between noodles or rice to go with your soup. Various of noodle choices, but I opted for the above one.

Mini Set | B$6.00

For a mini set, I think this is value for money. But the vegetable wasn’t very appealing though. They was a bit rotten part, which is quite normal.

According to Yugo, “charcoal grills offer more significant advantages over gas or electric. They burn hotter and you can add wood to your charcoal for a more flavorful taste. Charcoals also provide more intense smells and a more hand-on experience. Most grilling enthusiasts agreed that charcoal grills provide a more superior, smoky flavor over gas or electric grills.” I couldn’t vouch for the previous statement because I did not have any of the grilled meat. I had a throat infection couple of days ago and it had just recovered. Don’t wanna worsen it when Chinese New Year is just around the corner.

Friend asked me why does stew chicken is more flavorful compared to grilled chicken. Reason being, stew chicken is boiled with flavored broth in slow fire for quite some time. On the other hand, grilled chicken is cooked for like 5 minutes only. So whether the meat is flavorful or not, it depends on whether the marination process are adequately done and the duration whereby the meat had been marinated.

Friend ordered for Marinated Chicken Drumstick, which a set is for B$9.80. The prawn doesn’t come with, it’s one of the ingredients from my mini set.

Egg, which is supposed to go in my hotpot ended up on the BBQ sizzling plate!

In overall, it was a satisfying meal. Customer service was good too. Food were served promptly after placing order. However, the sauces offered were limited compared to the other Shabu Shabu restaurants in Brunei. Seating were comfortable and spacious. Bottomless plain water is provided as well.
