Mita Cake House’s Chicken Pie

Happy New Year 2014 in advance!

Today is the last day of year 2013. Have you accomplished majority of the resolutions which you set for yourself in early of the year? To be honest, resolution making and accomplishing them are never my forte and I have not been making any since a few years ago. If you had made any resolution in early of this year, perhaps today is the time whereby you will evaluate how much resolutions you have accomplished?

Anyways, Dad just got home from Kuching yesterday evening. As usual, whenever either of my parents return to Kuching, they would come back with either some fruits or desserts. And we got Chicken Pie again this time. Instead of the ones from ALOHA Delicatessen Bakery, we were being given the ones from Mita Cake House this time round!

As I mentioned previously, Chicken Pie never used to be one of my favourite food as majority which I had tasted came with a dry pastry skin. But these from Kuching turned out to be above my expectation. I used to say that those Chicken Pie from ALOHA Delicatessen Bakery are the best which I had tasted but I preferred the ones from Mita Cake House more now!

Chicken Pie | RM2.50 each

In terms of food presentation, it may not be as good as the ones from ALOHA Delicatessen Bakery but the flavoring is perfect! Instead using diced chicken cubes, Mita Cake House used shredded chicken flesh and mixed them with their own special gravy with big onions, button mushrooms and black pepper powder topped with cheese and a small slice of tomato. The portion of shredded chicken flesh was extremely generous. The Chicken Pie tasted a little bit spicy at the same time due to the black pepper powder.

You might be wondering why the Chicken Pie don’t look solid and stable? That’s because instead of heating them oven baked, Mom steamed them. LOL! You must think it’s weird but I liked it steamed more. Hahaha … xD

Perhaps I should try mastering the skill of pie making next? LOL!

Dinner @ Kaizen Sushi Kiarong

I had been craving for sashimi and sushi since few days ago and I decided to work an early shift today just to get my craving fixed. And furthermore, Kaylie just got back to Brunei few days ago from her one week holiday in Hong Kong and China. So, we met up for dinner. I invited Kevin (Kaylie’s boyfriend) as well but he was unable to turn up due to work commitment.

Kaylie bought me some souvenirs from Hong Kong and China. Not expecting a pack of Starbucks coffee powder as one of my souvenir but I am still very thankful for it. Speaking of coffee, I needed some relaxing coffee break time when I am off this hectic working period next week. Both mom and I made Chilled Lemon Cheesecake just now and it’s now sitting in the chiller for the night till tomorrow morning.

Anyways, here comes my food pictures at Kaizen Sushi Kiarong for tonight’s dinner.

Tori Karaage | B$6.30

Wanted something fried to eat this evening as I had ordered too many sashimi for myself. And furthermore, Kaylie can share it with me so that I wouldn’t have to eat all of them by myself. It was piping hot when served and the flesh were juicy and tender. The batter tasted just nice and they were deep fried to perfection.

Tori Karaage came with a dipping sauce of soy sauce with a little bit of spiciness in it. At first, I thought the chicken were fried with chili powder but it turned out that it was the dipping sauce which was spicy.

Spicy Chirashi Don | B$10.90

Liked this the first time when I had it at Kaizen Sushi Waterfront. But unfortunately, I don’t really like it today as I find their salmon not as fresh as I remembered. I finished the salmon but left half of the rice as both Kaylie and I ordered too much for two. LOL!

Avocado Salmon Salad | B$4.50

I am not much of an avocado eater but I wanted to have something healthy today so I ordered myself a salad dish. Maybe I should try the salmon salad at Sushi Tei next time. I heard it’s one of the most ordered dish at Sushi Tei and the salad dressing was the bomb.

Sake Maki | B$2.80 & Tamago Sushi | B$1.80

Koroke | B$3.60

This is mashed potatoes, chicken with frozen vegetables coated in batter with breadcrumbs and then deeply fried. It came with a dipping sauce but I couldn’t be sure whether it’s just some soy sauce or other type of sauce.

By the end of the dinner, we both split the bill as Kaylie had ordered a few dishes as takeaway for Kevin as he had forgotten to bring his wallet out with him when he goes to work. So, the girlfriend ordered some takeaways for him as dinner. I was trying to calculate Kaylie’s share and I just couldn’t get the right amount with the calculator on my iPhone 5S and I asked Kaylie if she happens to have any calculator with her apart from the one in the phone.

And she produced a Hello Kitty bling-ed calculator in front of me within a few seconds. *sweat* According to her, that was a birthday gift from one of her cousins. LOL!

Baking #3: Pancakes With Raisins

Woke up as early as 7:00a.m. this morning to make some pancakes for breakfast and to bring some for my colleagues. Intended to buy those ready made pancake mix but I decided to be daring this time by making my very own pancakes from scratch. But of course, with the help of online recipe. xD

Adapted from How To Make Fluffy Pancakes: (makes about 10 – 11 pieces of large size pancakes)

2 cups (250 grams) of plain flour
3 teaspoons (15 grams) of baking powder
2 tablespoons (25 grams) of sugar
2 cups (475ml) of milk
2 eggs
4 teaspoons (60 grams) of butter, melted and slightly cooled

There were various pancakes recipes on the Internet but I chose this as the ingredients were pretty straightforward and easy to acquire. I had all the ingredients ready at home apart from the baking powder so I bought one small bottle at the very last minute before going home yesterday evening.

Place the plain flour, baking powder and sugar in a separate mixing bowl and mix them until they were well combined. I sieved the plain flour beforehand.

Make a well in the centre of the mix. Add eggs and milk and mix them with a hand whisk until well combined.

When the mixture are well combined, add in the melted butter. If your melted butter had cooled too much, you might need to reheat it.

Before bringing them to the pan to be cooked, you can add in other ingredients of your choice such as blueberries, raisins, chocolate chips and so on. I added in a handful of raisins.

Heat a pan with medium heat and grease the pan with butter. I did not use butter but vegetable oil.

Use a ladle to scoop the mixture and place them on the pan in the shape of a circle.

Flip the pancake over when you see bubbles forming on top of the batter.

When both sides turned brownish in color, your pancakes are ready to be served.

The good thing about pancakes made from scratch over those ready made pancake mix is that you can control the amount of sugar that you wanted on your pancakes. 25 grams of sugar is actually too little. But if you don’t like sweet stuffs, 25 grams is more than enough.

Mom claimed that the pancakes lack of taste compared to those ready made pancake mix. Well, those came with vanilla essence and mine didn’t. So, that explains the lack of taste. My colleague said that it lack of egg taste. LOL! Well, I personally find my pancakes okay with the right level of sweetness and they were indeed fluffy.

Do tell me what you think if you happened to follow this recipe as well. Happy trying!

Review: Timeless Truth Instantaneous Brightening Cooling Mask

My colleagues and I were discussing about coffee over lunch yesterday and I realized that I had not been drinking coffee for about a week. And I found out that my skin condition and complexion been better now that I cut off coffee. Well, I broke the spell yesterday and drank a small cup of coffee yesterday afternoon over tea break. No wonder I had been feeling sleepy for the past one week at work. Never realized that coffee can actually plays such as important role in my life. Well, I am now trying to get used to not having coffee for breakfast and tea break.

On the side note, KinG managed to sell off my iPhone 4 yesterday afternoon to some buyer from KB. He used B$350 as the starting price as my iPhone 4 was a lot newer than his and it was almost scratch free albeit I had dropped it like about 5 – 6 times. But nevertheless, it still look good as new. When I passed over my iPhone 4 after gotten the iPhone 5S from him, he said that my phone still looks new. Well, there’s not a single day whereby I left it “naked”.

Anyways, here comes my review on Timeless Truth Instantaneous Brightening Cooling Mask for today.

Wondering why I had been using Timeless Truth brand of facial sheet mask lately? I bought like about 6 – 8 pieces of the brand of facial sheet masks from HiShop few weeks ago. For those of you who had never heard of HiShop, it’s a Malaysian owned online shopping website whereby it sells mostly skincare products. Timeless Truth and Clinelle are one of the few brands which they were authorized to sell as the authorized dealer.

Adapted from Timeless Truth Malaysia:

STAY-C®50 reduces dark spots and slows down formation of melanin to allow even toned finish for the skin and brings back clarity. It is one of the best active ingredients for skin whitening, and builds a blockage for UV rays.

m-Tranexamic Acid is medically used in prohibiting bleeding issues. It is proven to have highly effective result in reducing melanin growth and pigmentations. m-Tranexamic acid is capable in reversing and inhibiting dark spots to fight mild inflammation.

Hyaluronic Acid is non-toxic that serves as the most important space filling substance in the human body. It holds water in the skin to keep collagen hydrated and provides a youthful look. Hyaluronic Acid has moisturizing capabilities on skin’s structure.

Menthol is derived from peppermint. It is used as a cooling agent and fragrance to give a refreshing and soothing sensation to the skin.

The texture of Timeless Truth Instantaneous Brightening Cooling Mask is a lot thinner than Timeless Truth Absolute Clarity Mask. It’s pretty thin and I think it has the texture like My Beauty Diary range of sheet masks. When applied onto the face, it gave an extremely cooling feeling. And furthermore, I placed it in the fridge before application so that it gives the maximum cooling effect. LOL!

But when compared with other brand of facial sheet masks in terms of cooling effect, I think My Scheming Mint Collagen Soothing Mask did a lot better. My face felt extremely cooling throughout the 20 minutes of application and it doesn’t sting either. I could see that my skin is a lot brighter in complexion, softer and smoother. And no breakout either on the next morning. But if you really were to compare the brightening effect, I think Timeless Truth Absolute Clarity Mask did a lot better.

So, here’s what I think of Timeless Truth Instantaneous Brightening Cooling Mask in a nutshell:

1. Cooling effect.
2. Leaves skin soft and smooth after application.
3. Brightened up skin complexion.
4. No sting during application.
5. No breakout on the next morning.

1. Cooling effect is not as good as My Scheming Mint Collagen Soothing Mask.
2. Brightening effect not as good as Timeless Truth Absolute Clarity Mask.
3. Not available in Brunei, must be purchased through HiShop or Timeless Truth Malaysia.

Review: Estee Lauder Perfectly Clean Multi-Action Cleansing Gelée/Refiner

It’s Boxing Day today. Well, not in Asian countries though but Western countries. If you are living in a Western country, today is probably the one day in a year whereby you get to shop till you drop. From what I heard, the price drop are pretty extreme. But the downside of Boxing Day Sales is that you don’t get to try what you are buying in the shop until you purchased them and tried them at your own luxury at home. You’ll get to return them few days later if they don’t fit well or whatsover.

I was only in the UK for less than a year and managed to experience Boxing Day shopping once. But both Sister and I weren’t that crazy enough to queue outside the shops before it was even opened for business that day. We only went by the time they were about to close in an hour or two. LOL!

Okay … Here’s another skincare product review for today – Estee Lauder Perfectly Clean Multi-Action Cleansing Gelée/Refiner.

This is one of the products which I bought from BestBuy World Malaysia few weeks ago. I actually wanted to buy one of the cleansing oil in sample size from Estee Lauder but it was already out of stock. They do have sample size of the cleansing oil which I wanted but it came in the quantity of 5! I don’t need that much. I could never know if the product works on me until I have tried it for myself.

And I came across this product after a few scrolling. And I was like thinking why not get myself an Estee Lauder facial cleanser and I could also bring around with me when I am traveling? But then this product was so good that I had finished the entire tube this morning so there’s no chance that it’s gonna go traveling with me. LOL!

As mentioned in the product name, the texture of this facial cleanser comes in the form of gel. The gel contains micro beads in it which will “burst/dissolve” when you gently massage them over your skin. Make sure that your skin ain’t dry for easy application. The gel will turn slightly foamy or bubble-y when you lather it with water.

According to Estee Lauder website, this facial cleanser is most suitable for those with oily skin like mine. That was actually the main factor which triggered me to buy it in the first place. The scent smelled pretty much like a perfume to me. It was nice in my opinion but maybe not to those who doesn’t like strong scented facial cleanser. My face felt extremely soft, smooth and squeaky clean after rinsing the gel off with lukewarm water.

So, here’s what I think of Estee Lauder Perfectly Clean Multi-Action Cleansing Gelée/Refiner in a nutshell:

1. Gel texture, suitable for oily skin.
2. Comes with micro beads for exfoliating purpose.
3. Smelled like perfume.
4. Leave skin feeling soft, smooth and squeaky clean.

1. Scent may be too overpowering for some.
2. Expensive.

Overall Rating: 5 out of 5

Price: RM18 (7ml)

Repurchase? Yeah!
