Review: Sheraton Tianjin Binhai Hotel

I guess the blog title said it all where this hotel is located. It came to my realization that I had not reviewed about this hotel when I was scrolling through my media files on WordPress checking out if I have missed any blog entry. It turned out that I have a lot to catch up on. So, do stay tune for more blog entries covering on food and skincare products.

Anyways, I got this stay at this fancy hotel courtesy to Sister who was assigned on a job duty for a couple of days in Tianjin when I was in Shanghai last March. We were both moving from one hotel to another on my last visit. Both Sister and I met up in Taipei for a 3D2N trip and we stayed at Westgate Hotel.

We then came back to Shanghai on weekend and I stayed at her place for two nights before we flew to Tianjin and stayed at Sheraton Tianjin Binhai Hotel. Last stop was in Beijing in which we took the bullet train to and stayed at Crowne Plaza Beijing Wangfujing.

We took the earliest flight to Tianjin from Shanghai and we were at the hotel before noon time. We were granted an early check-in but were required to wait for about an hour as the housekeepers were still tidying up our room. The kind receptionist informed us that our room will be ready when we returned after lunch.

Unfortunately, our room was not ready when we returned from lunch as we returned in less than an hour. There was nothing much to shop around as Sister was not feeling well and she had a meeting due at 2PM that afternoon. We were being given complimentary beverage vouchers which we could order from the lobby lounge.

We were assigned to Room 1803 on the 18th Floor. I think that was an SPG Floor if I am not mistaken whereby SPG members are assigned to whenever they stay in. And yes, Sister was upgraded as Gold Preferred Guest as she always stay in Starwood hotel chains.

We were being given a spacious room. Look at the hallway from the entrance into the room. Most importantly, big wardrobe as well!

The bathroom was even nicer. They have separate shower and toilet cubicles. And even a bathtub if you fancy a dip in. LOL! Love the toiletries provided and they even provided salt scrub. We did not use the salt scrub while we were there but we did pack it into our luggage before leaving. LOL!

We requested for twin bed and one bed was big enough to fit two. Bed was comfortable but I think the pillows were slightly too soft for me though.

When in China, there are a couple of reasons why I preferred Starwood hotels compared to other international hotel chain. As you all know that China had banned majority social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram and so on. The social media platforms allowed in China were those locally developed like Weibo, QQ and so on.

Surprisingly, Starwood hotels are the only hotels in China which allow you to have access of banned social media platforms. Both Sister and I stayed at Le Royal Meridien Shanghai previously and social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram were accessible. 3 pin plug sockets were provided so there is no need to bring universal adapter if most of your gadgets comes in 3 pin plug.

Verdict: Location is good as you can find a couple of shopping malls nearby. Or you could always take an hour train ride into the city from Citizen Square Station which is roughly 10 minutes walk on foot from the hotel’s main entrance. The journey from Tianjin Binhai International Airport to the hotel was about 45 minutes to an hour, depending on traffic.

Food wise, it won’t be a problem as the mall next door comes with various choices of food. The have local delicacies, Japanese cuisine, fast food chains like Subway and Burger King, coffee chains like Costa and so on. Surprisingly enough, I don’t remember seeing a Starbucks Coffee in the mall.
