Just realized that this is gonna be my first blog entry for the month of February. If you had been following my blog entries, you are probably expecting Bangkok travel related blog entries. Sadly though, both Sister and I did not go Bangkok during CNY as Grandma passed away on the eve of Chinese New Year.
So, we cancelled our Bangkok air tickets as well as our hotel reservation. We flew into Kuching from Kota Kinabalu (KK) instead of Miri as there is no ticket available due to last minute booking and festive peak period. Mom had to forfeit a section of her air ticket and flew into Kuching earlier than usual.
This was the first year whereby both our parents were in hometown while Sister and I stayed back in Brunei on the eve of CNY. The family and I had our CNY reunion dinner two days earlier as Mom will be flying back to Kuching on the next day.
We intended to go Thiam Hock Restaurant but they were already closed for CNY holiday. But thankfully, Chempaka Kitchen was still open. So, Chempaka Kitchen it was for CNY reunion dinner.
Stir Fry Eggplants with Salted Fish & Minced Pork
This was not bad but tad bit too greasy for my liking as the sliced eggplants were oil fried before stir fried.
We ordered one roll only as we did not want to have so many meat dishes in a meal. But we did ordered two rolls for takeaway so that Sister and I can have it for CNY eve dinner. This Ngor Hiang was a lot better compared to the one we had couple of years ago.
We ordered two Lotus Root Soup actually but they only had one last bowl left. So, they gave us one Lotus Root Soup and a Watercress Soup.
Nice, but too fattening for me. So, I ate moderately.
Stir Fry Assorted Mushrooms with Fried Tofu
This was a satisfying dinner meal and the entire dinner only cost us B$31! But then we ordered small portion albeit it was for four.
