04062016 / Lucky Restaurant

We had family dinner yesterday evening. It was a belated Mother’s Day and advanced Father’s Day dinner celebration. We intended to go Chempaka Kitchen for dinner as it was our usual dinner spot but it was raining yesterday evening. And Chempaka Kitchen isn’t exactly an ideal dinner venue when it is raining.

We wanted to go May Fang Restaurant but it was kind of far and Dad suggested that we go to somewhere where there is basement parking and we do not have to wet ourselves before getting into the restaurant. I called Vanda Restaurant in Orchid Garden Hotel and was told that they have a private function going on. Seri Kemayan was booked for a private function too so we ended up at Lucky Restaurant. So many hitches just for a simple dinner. LOL!

The restaurant was recently refurbished. So, it looked pretty new compared to before. And their platters and cutleries had all been replaced with new sets.


Braised Sea Cucumber Soup

We ordered the smallest portion for four of this Braised Sea Cucumber Soup. Black vinegar sauce was pre-added before serving to us. However, we all find the soup to be slightly salty for our liking. Hence, we added some more black vinegar to neutralize the saltiness with some sourness. LOL!


Stir Fry Asparagus with Scallops

The asparagus were well done but I think they overcooked the scallops they were too chewy in texture for my liking.


Braised Pork Ribs with Salted Black Beans

As per my Dad, the gravy goes well with the rice. LOL! It came with super lots of big onions and green capsicums. There were not much flesh on the pork ribs. And Sister mentioned that the gravy tasted pretty much alike the gravy for Stir Fry Chicken with Ginger & Onions.


Assam Fish Head

We were shocked at the portion when this was being served to us as we requested for the smallest portion. But according to the waitress, they only have one standard serving size for this Assam Fish Head. Some pieces of the fish were rather tough in my opinion.

However, the gravy was good with a well balanced taste of sour and spicy. It came with generous amount of okra and large onion. Additionally, they had also added fried red onion slices! Albeit the big portion, we managed to finish the entire thing.
