Brunch yesterday was at Table No-1 by Jason Atherton around The Bund. It is also one of the highly recommended restaurants in Shanghai by expatriates. We chose this venue as my belated birthday treat to Sister. We intended to do dinner but decided that brunch will be good too. We ordered Uber from home to the restaurant as walking distance might be long if we took public transportation.
The restaurant exterior may not look nice but rest assured that the interior was nice. It took us quite some time to locate the entrance into the restaurant. It turned out that the entrance was just next to this steel door. The entrance into the restaurant is via the entrance of The Waterhouse at South Bund.
Grapefruit Juice | ¥40 & Orange Juice | ¥40
The both of us had fresh juices. Sister had Grapefruit Juice while I had Orange Juice. To be honest, price was steep given the portion.
Scone | ¥48 (~B$9.60)
with clotted cream and house strawberry jam
The scone was nice with minimal buttery taste. The scones were served warm and best paired with the clotted cream and house strawberry jam. However, Sister think that the clotted cream was not authentic enough.
Loved the bagel as it was not rock hard like some bagels which I had tried previously. The bagel tasted like homemade though. Spread some of the cream cheese on top of the bagel, place a few slice of smoked salmon, squeeze the lemon for the juice and there you have a nice smoked salmon bagel.
Eggs Florentine | ¥78
with sauteed spinach
I chose this as I needed my veggie and the other food did not entice me much apart from French Toast and Blueberry Pancake. I liked that the portion for sauteed spinach was generous and they used fresh spinach. The eggs were poached just nice, drizzled with some hollandaise sauce.
Apart from indoor dining area, they also have al fresco dining area for those who prefer to enjoy the summer weather. We did not stay outside as the sun was pretty strong albeit the windy weather.
Verdict: We both loved the food at Table No-1 by Jason Atherton. However, they are not serving brunch on everyday basis but weekends only from 12PM until 3PM. Lunch is available on Monday to Friday from 12PM to 2:30PM. Dinner will be available on every evening from 6PM till 10:30PM.
Customer service was impressive. Location wise, it may not be the most convenient one if traveling by Metro as you may have to go through a construction site from the nearest station. So, it is best to either go by Uber or taxi instead of Metro or bus if you want to save some traveling time. Bear in mind that there is also a 10% service charge on top of your total dining bill.
