The family and I had dinner at Seri Kemayan Restaurant last Tuesday evening as an advanced Chap Goh Meh celebration because Sister will be returning to Shanghai the next day. Both Sister and I suggested that we eat at home but Mom mentioned that our household refrigerator was running low on food supply. The leftovers were not sufficient enough to cook a feast.
Mom suggested dinner at Chempaka Kitchen and she told me to find out if the home based restaurant is already open for business during this festive season. It turned out that Chempaka Kitchen will not open for business until this festive season is over. I think parents were sick of the random food that we ate in Singapore so they insisted on Chinese cuisine. So, Seri Kemayan Restaurant it was.

沙拉油条 | B$12
These are deep fried stuffed dough fritters topped with mayonnaise dressing and sprinkled with toasted white sesame seeds. Not appropriate if you are on calorie watching diet. What’s stuffed inside was shrimp paste if I am not wrong. They were nice but I think it would be nicer if there were less mayonnaise dressing.
姜葱鹿肉 | B$15
This is stir fry venison with ginger and scallion. The meat were overcooked and they were tough. Chewy was probably the right term to describe my experience with the venison meat. LOL! Dad claimed that there were more sliced ginger than the venison meat itself.
蒜米芦笋 | B$12
This is stir fry asparagus. It can be cooked with various kinds of sauces but Sister and I requested for normal stir fry with garlic as we were both kind of sick of the heavy food that we had been eating while in Singapore.
砂煲芋头鱼片 | B$15
Literally translated as claypot fish fillets with taro. We only had one complaint about this particular dish. The gravy was too salty for our liking. We had more than half as leftover and turned it into lunch the next day. Mom improvised it by adding more water to neutralize the saltiness and added more fresh vegetables.
鱼肚更 | B$12
We ordered a small portion to share among the four of us and we were unable to finish. We agreed that there was too much cornstarch in the soup resulting in a thick textured soup.
