30042017 / Flour & Butter Cafe

Three blog entries in a day! An achievement unlocked as I do not usually do so. LOL! Well, I had too much time to kill at the moment as I am waiting for the dough of my hot dog buns to be ready from proofing in the bread machine.

I am not sure if it is going to be a success but I am hoping that it will be. I am going to try out two versions – steam and oven bake. I had bought two packets of Ayamas chicken frankfurters. Mom is not keen of baked goods as compared to steamed ones as she is extremely ulcer prone.

Anyways, here comes my blog entry of my visit to Flour & Butter Cafe this afternoon with Jennifer after our lunch at Kausar Cafe. Choices of cakes were limited as there were only 6 – Salted Caramel Orange Tall Cake, Strawberry Shortcake, Tiramisu Crepe Cake, Blueberry Cheesecake, Salted Caramel Cheese Cake and Black Forest Peanut Butter Cake.

Latte | B$5.00

Mocha | B$5.50

Tiramisu Crepe Cake | B$4.50

Out of the 6 choices of cakes, this was one of the two which I have yet tried. I decided to go for Tiramisu Crepe Cake as I am not fan of a Salted Caramel Cheesecake. The both of us could not finish this as we find the whipped cream rather too much for our liking. The crepe was done perfectly though and they did not break when sliced through. The taste of coffee was very distinctive.

Peanut Butter Black Forest Cake | B$5.50

This is one of my favorite cake at Flour & Butter Cafe, loaded with generous portion of black cherries, sandwiched in between layers of whipped cream and thin layers of peanut butter. Presentation was not appealing at first glance as the cake was placed in a sleeping position instead of standing position like the Tiramisu Crepe Cake.

Jennifer thought that the taste of peanut butter was subtle at first. That was because the parts which she ate did not have much peanut butter. So, I asked her to try the area which peanut butter was visible from the outside. LOL! And yeah, she agreed it was a good combination. I think you must love both in order to enjoy this combination?

30042017 / Kausar Cafe

It was Jennifer’s birthday last Friday. So, I let her choose a venue for her birthday lunch. She could not decide where to at first (within my expectation) and we agreed to only decide when the time is near based on her craving at the time.

She was craving for Garlic Naan when I texted for her decision yesterday evening. Her brother highly recommended Kausar Cafe. I had been to Kausar Cafe once and it was with Jia and Stephen many years ago. The restaurant was not extremely packed at the time when we arrived as it was nearing 1PM. I guess lunch crowd had subsided by then?

Garlic Naan | B$1.40

Chicken Jalfrezi | B$6.50

served dry fried, julienne chicken pieces with tomatoes and onion in an exotic blend of ginger, green peppers and mild spices

Jennifer chose this as she was craving for a spicy curry but this came out not meeting her expectation. It was rather different from what she had back in the UK. I never had Chicken Jalfrezi before so I had nothing to compare of but this was definitely not spicy for Indian standard. It tasted creamy and buttery to me.

Vegetable Briyani | B$4.20

rice cooked in thick gravy, layered with your choice from three great options and served with vegetable curry or raita

We ordered Vegetable Briyani since we had ordered Chicken Jalfrezi as well. We were not keen of having a heavy and meaty lunch since we will be heading for coffee and cake at Flour & Butter Cafe after lunch. Their Vegetable Briyani was good in my opinion, served with potato chunks, canned mushroom, broccoli and cauliflowers. The rice was not as dry as what I had previously on my first visit. Instead of being served raita, we were being served pickled cucumbers and carrots.

29042017 / TCVH Vegetarian House

Used up my Internet quota yesterday evening after downloading an episode of Man X Man. I think YouTube streaming also took up partial of the leftover quota as well. I had no choice but to top up another 10GB worth of data for B$8 for the time being as there are three of us in the household who use Internet. Albeit topped up, the web loading is still slow at the moment.

I left work earlier than usual for my Saturday shift. I had dinner on my own at TCVH Vegetarian House as I wanted to do grocery shopping at Hua Ho, Kiulap after dinner. Intended to get myself some coffee fix after grocery shopping at Kapra Coffee but it turned out that they had recently revised their opening hours. They are no longer open in the evening.

Assam Curry Fish with Rice | B$4

Craving for something soupy as it was nearing the time of the month. This was a good bowl of Assam Curry Fish but it was lacking the sourness that I am craving for. The portion of vegetables was generous but there were only two pieces of mock fish.

Of Random Things #104

It is pouring cats and dogs outside. Such a nice weather to sleep in, I would say. LOL! I am finally getting my day off tomorrow. Have not decided what to do for tomorrow apart from having lunch with Jennifer. Perhaps I should bake some bread since it had been more than two weeks since I last baked one.

I bought this gluten and wheat-free granola bar from Supa Save, Mata-Mata earlier this month. Now that I see this picture, I could not recall where I placed it. It was nowhere to be seen in the kitchen but I am certain that I have yet consumed it.

Of Random Things #103

I am finally getting my day off this Sunday after more than 10 days of full day shift. It was Jennifer’s birthday yesterday so we will be going for lunch on Sunday as a birthday treat from me. We have not decided on the venue as she has not come up with one yet. Since it is her birthday, I let her choose the venue. So, where the venue be would depends on her craving on the day. LOL!

Anyways, I had finally tried the new Dairy Farmers dessert yogurt which I bought from Supa Save, Mata-Mata the other day. Supa Save had brought in three new flavors – Golden Caramel, Chocolate & Raspberry and Chocolate & Coconut. I got myself Chocolate & Raspberry.

Texture wise, I think it was not as creamy as the regular ones from Dairy Farmers but it was definitely not as sweet as the Yellow Box Honey which I usually buy. To be honest, I think I prefer their regular yogurt as compared to this dessert yogurt. However, this is definitely a healthier dessert option when you are craving for ice-cream.
