28052017 / Thiam Hock Restaurant

It was our family dinner gathering at Thiam Hock Restaurant yesterday evening. Sister will be returning to Shanghai tomorrow morning so the family and I made plans to dine outside on Sunday evening. We contemplated between several options but Sister came up with Thiam Hock Restaurant as she finds their food decent.

We ordered quite a lot for four and we had so many to bring home as takeaways. Mom complained that the food would be too much for the four of us but Sister claimed that Mom had not been cooking enough meat ever since she came home for holiday. LOL! Well, it was me who told Mom not to cook meat so she always cooked me vegetable dishes for lunch.

Without further ado, let me show you what we had for dinner yesterday evening.

Bean Sprouts with Salted Fish | B$8

I am not much of a bean sprout eater but I agreed with parents that the one we had at Traders Dim Sum Centre fared better than this. It was not as crunchy and Mom claimed that the bean sprouts were not extremely fresh.

Asam Fish Slices | B$10

This is one of the signatory dishes at Thiam Hock Restaurant. It was appetizing, sourish enough for my liking but not spicy though. I was craving for spicy food yesterday due to the arrival of my time of the month. However, Mom mentioned that the ladies fingers were over matured.

Special Homemade Beancurd with Minced Pork | B$10

We requested for a different topping as we had ordered too much meat for dinner yesterday. The waitress recommended us mushroom topping and we agreed. We later agreed that we should have gone with the default topping as the mushroom had a raw taste and it compromised the taste of the entire dish.

Yam Basket | B$30

This was the expensive one among all dishes and one that we approved of. The yam ring was nicely done and it was flavorful. They used good yam. However, I do find the Sweet & Sour Pork rather too sweet for my liking.

Stir Fry Venison with Ginger & Spring Onion | B$10

The meat was cooked alright. It was not tough but not extremely smooth kind of texture either. The only downside of this dish was that it was overly salty in our opinion. The soy sauce complimented the fragrant rice well but not advisable to be eaten on it’s own though.
