Review: SayChiizu, Brunei

SayChiizu has been around for almost a month or so. As usual, the queue is always overwhelming on the first few weeks of business. I chose to go when the crowd is lesser. When Sister was home for Jennifer’s wedding last weekend, I asked if she wanted to try out SayChiizu. She agreed as the queue in Singapore would be even more overwhelming than what we have here in Brunei.

There was no queue at the time when Sister and I placed our order but there was a line shortly after. SayChiizu was offering three flavors at the time – Original, Charcoal and Chocolate. We had Charcoal Hokkaido Cheese Toast.

Charcoal Hokkaido Cheese Toast | B$3.50

I didn’t get a picture of the Charcoal Hokkaido Cheese Toast and this was the closest that I have at the moment. Hopefully, I wouldn’t get killed for posting this picture. To be honest, I was rather disappointed. We didn’t get the long stretch of mozzarella cheese pulled out when we eat. They had added some sweet milk sauce in the toast as well.

However, Sister did commented that the one trick to get a long stretch of mozzarella is to not eat the toast immediately when served (not sure how legit that was). Let the cheese set in the toast first before eating. She went back for second at one of the SayChiizu outlets in Singapore.

SayChiizu has launched a new flavor couple of days ago – Matcha Hokkaido Cheese Toast! If I linger around Times Square longer yesterday, I would have noticed that they have introduced a new flavor.

Of Random Things #131

Sister was home last weekend to attend Jennifer’s wedding reception. I requested a day off from work so that we can be at the venue on time. Jennifer invited the entire family. So, both parents of mine attended too.

I didn’t manage to get a long dress this time round so I wore a tailor made dress by Mom. As Sister wasn’t keen on going for a makeover, I didn’t either. We only had our hair done. I requested Darren to give me soft curls and finished off with some sprays to hold the curls.

I had finally finished watching Prince of Wolf yesterday! It was long but the storyline was surprisingly better than I thought. Some of the Korean drama series had finished airing recently and one of them was I’m Not a Robot. By the time I’m done watching I’m Not a Robot, Black Knight: The Man Who Guards Me should have completed airing too.

28012018 / Flour & Butter Cafe

As my hair appointment with Darren was cancelled on short notice, I have got nothing planned out for the day. I started the day late and had lunch alone at Pasta Mania, Times Square. There wasn’t much to do in Times Square so I drove to Flour & Butter Cafe for high tea as I was craving for their Tuna Croissant.

The cafe was pretty crowded at the time when I walked in. I intended to go for takeaway only but decided to stay back for dine-in since there was a vacant table by the entrance. I got myself …

Iced Green Tea Latte | B$5.90

I don’t usually go for iced beverage but I felt like having one yesterday. To be honest, I preferred their cold version of Green Tea Latte more than their hot version. It was a bit too sweet for me but I think the Green Tea Powder which they were using came sweetened.

Nutella Crepe Cake | B$4.90

As mentioned above, my purpose of visiting Flour & Butter Cafe was for their Tuna Croissant. Sad to say, they had ran out of Croissant since morning. So, I got myself the last slice of Nutella Crepe Cake since their Carrot Cake was nowhere in sight. Love their Nutella Crepe Cake as they were generous with the Nutella spread but too sweet for me.

28012018 / Pasta Mania, Times Square

Today is supposed to be my hair appointment with Darren but he messaged me to cancel on short notice as his wife is going into labor. We rescheduled our appointment to the last Sunday before Chinese New Year.

With nothing planned out for the day, I slept in late until 9AM. I showered and took my own sweet time to get ready while watching Prince of Wolf. Drove to Times Square before lunch as I intended to try out saychiizu again but ended up not getting it.

I had been craving for Pesto Linguine recently and the one from Pasta Mania suits my taste bud just fine. Unfortunately, Pasta Mania had discontinued it from their menu and I ended up having …

Mediterranean Linguine | B$5.90

mixed vegetables in tomato herb sauce

You get to choose the type of pasta to go with and they have spaghetti, linguine, penne and fusilli. I went for Linguine as the pasta thickness is to my liking. The tomato herb sauce was rather salty in the beginning but the tomato chunks sort of neutralized the saltiness.

The pasta was loaded with tomatoes, carrots, big onions, garlic, green bell peppers, olives, celery and canned sliced mushrooms. I personally think that it would be nicer if they used fresh button mushrooms instead of canned sliced mushroom.

21012018 / Mituo Vege Restaurant

After our high tea session with Jennifer and some of the ex-classmates at t-Lounge by Dilmah, Sister and I headed for dinner with parents at Mituo Vege Restaurant. Dad is trying to cut down on meat consumption. So, we opted for vegetarian cuisine. My usual go-to restaurant for vegetarian cuisine is Tien Sing Restaurant but Mom likes Mituo’s Mixed Vegetables Curry better.

The four of us went in separate cars. Sister actually suggested that we drive home to pick parents for dinner. Despite Brunei is a small country, it is quite out of the way to drive back home from Batu Bersurat and then off to Batu Satu. We arrived Mituo Vege Restaurant 10 minutes ahead of parents and we manned the task of ordering.

Parents complained that we ordered too much but we ended up finishing all aside from the broth of Mixed Vegetables Curry. Without further ado, let me show you what we had for dinner the other evening. I didn’t have the price list as I accidentally deleted the pictures of menu which I had snapped the other day and Sister happened not to keep the receipt either.

Claypot Tofu

Cereal Tofu

Sister was intrigued to try their Cereal Tofu. So, we ordered one in the smallest portion. Honestly speaking, I preferred the Cereal Tofu from Tien Sing Restaurant. Tien Sing’s version came with a lemony taste and their Tofu are house made. The ones from Mituo tasted like store bought.

Sambal Okra

You can opt from variety of cooking styles for Okra but I chose to have ours cooked with Sambal. The ones I saw on the menu was Okra with Oyster Sauce which I think can be rather bland. Dad found the Sambal Okra rather spicy so Sister and I polished most of the Sambal Okra.

Sweet & Sour Chicken

Mixed Vegetables Curry

Having tried so many versions of Mixed Vegetables Curry, I still prefer this from Mituo Vege Restaurant. However, I did had my fair share of disappointing ones here at Mituo before during Chinese New Year from couple of years ago.
