We celebrated Mother’s Day a week earlier this year as most of the famous Chinese restaurants would be fully booked. Food serving would take slightly longer than usual during big occasions. To avoid the crowd and slow serving time, we decided to celebrate earlier.
Vanda Restaurant was my first choice as it’s located nearer to my house but Mom declined and said yes to 丰满楼. Quite surprising I would say as she usually decline 丰满楼 when I suggested the said restaurant for dim sum breakfast. 丰满楼 wasn’t packed at the time when we walked into the restaurant.
It took us a while to come up with our orders as parents requested for no deep fried food. Hence, food choices were rather limited as my favorite food were all deep fried. That being said, we still managed to come up with four dishes for three persons with minimal deep frying. LOL! We ordered everything in the smallest portion and still had trouble finishing them.
Pork Slices with Ginger & Onion | B$12
This was the first to serve after we placed our orders. All our food came promptly after orders had been taken. This dish came with generous amount of sliced ginger and onions. The meat were soft and tender in my opinion. However, Dad commented that the sauce was rather salty for his liking. The gravy however paired very well with the plain rice though.
Fish Stomach Soup with Egg | B$14
My usual go to for soups were Fish Maw Soup or Mixed Seafood Soup. The texture of fish stomach was almost similar to fish maw in my opinion but slightly tougher. The soup was quite loaded with cornstarch in my opinion but went well with black vinegar especially when it was still piping hot!
Stir Fry Asparagus with Fish Slices
I intended to order Stir Fry Hong Kong Kailan but Mom chose Stir Fry Asparagus over it. It was topped with sliced fish. The fish ain’t from dory fish but fresh catch of the day. The fish slices were quite thickly sliced.
Braised Bean Curd | B$12
I was craving for tofu dish at the time. I wanted to try their Homemade Bean Curd but they were deep fried as well. So, I opted for their Braised Bean Curd as it was cooked with a variety of mixed vegetables including mushrooms and sliced roasted pork. The gravy as usual paired well with the rice. We managed to finish this despite the portion. It’s always easier to finish vegetable dishes than meat’s. LOL!
