30092018 / Shi Wei Tian Kopitiam, Kiulap

I went for my last appointment at Nails & Wax this morning before they are temporarily closed for renovation. For your information, they will be closed for a month (roughly) starting from the 10th of next month. I am not sure if I had mentioned, I will be in Singapore for a long weekend holiday next week.

Ever since Sister moved to Singapore about a year ago, I had traveled to Singapore a lot more than before. When she was living in Shanghai previously, I think I only visit her once per year at the most. Furthermore, ticket fare to Shanghai was double the price to Singapore’s. LOL!

Anyways, let’s not get strayed away with what I intended to blog for today! I know I haven’t been blogging as religiously as I used to be but fret not. I will definitely make up for them with more food posts while in Singapore.

It was about 1:30PM when I was done with half of my errands for the day. I was feeling a little hungry by then and decided to stop by Shi Wei Tian Kopitiam in Kiulap for lunch. I didn’t want a heavy lunch as I am trying to watch what I am eating with an upcoming trip to Singapore in line.

Wanton Soup | B$3.00

Hot soupy food is normally not what I would always order but I kinda craved for it this afternoon. It came with a generous portion of 12 wantons in a bowl alongside with some Chye Sim, deep fried red onion for extra flavor and thinly cut spring onion as garnish.

The wantons were cooked just right in my opinion. The pork fillings weren’t a lot but considerably good given that a bowl came with 12 pieces of wantons. I loved the texture of the wanton skin. They were smooth and silky.

24092018 / Tien Sing Restaurant

It was Mid-Autumn Festival and the fifteenth day of lunar month August last Monday. Being a full day vegetarian, Mom and I resorted to Tien Sing Restaurant for dinner on our way home from Miri.

Vegetarian restaurants in Brunei are normally very packed during the first and fifteenth day of every lunar months. Surprisingly, the restaurant was not as packed as I anticipated. Food were served promptly after we ordered. Mom and I both ordered a rice dish each.

Without further ado, let me show you what we had for dinner the other day!

Hotplate Homemade Tofu with Rice | B$5.50

Tien Sing Restaurant house made all their tofu and they contained egg. If you couldn’t consume egg, please let them know and they will replace with non-egg tofu. All the time I ordered their tofu dishes, the staff would double confirm with me if I am okay with egg in tofu.

I liked their house made tofu and they fared a lot better than the ones served outside. The house made tofu were deep fried and place atop of a small piece of omelette. Thinly sliced coriander leaves were strewn on top of the tofu. Taste wise, Mom commented that it was a bit spicy as the sauce was cooked with some chilies.

Chicken Claypot Rice | B$5.00

Portion wise, it was overly generous and could easily feed two in my opinion. The dish came with soy sauce coated white rice, deep fried mock chicken and some Bok Choy with extra sauce drizzled on them. The deep fried mock chicken were rather hard and dry for my liking. I personally think that the dish could do some ginger and sesame oil? I am no expert in this but this is just my two cents.

24092018 / Beanery & Co.

It was my lunar birthday yesterday. To celebrate me being a year older, I got myself a piece of cake with Mom at Beanery & Co.. There were aplenty of choices for cakes in Bandar but we dropped by Kuala Belait since it’s on the way returning to Bandar from Miri. I am not familiar with the routes around KB and used Waze to navigate the ways around KB.

Chai Latte | B$5.50

I already had my dose of coffee at Starbucks Coffee in the morning, I wanted something non-coffee in the afternoon. I asked if they have Chai Tea Latte. They didn’t but offered to make it decaf. So, I had my Chai Latte decaf with skimmed milk. The beverage was dusted with cocoa powder and served with two finger cookies. Their Chai Latte was okay in my opinion but I had better.

Yam Fudge | B$6.50

Don’t be fooled by the pictures! The cake was quite a big piece in reality. The reason why I am posting the second picture of the cake was to show the nicely done rose frosting.

The purple colored frosting came with a mild taste of yam. In the cake was three layers of soft like pillow and cottony sponge cakes sandwiched in between two layers of thick slab yam fillings! The yam filling had a distinctive taste of yam and was made out of the real yam. Mom loved the Yam Fudge but commented that it was a bit on the sweet side though. I would highly recommend their Yam Fudge if you are a big fan of Yam.

They were having Carrot Cake yesterday but we were unable to stomach two cakes at the same time hence we went for the Yam Fudge only. To be honest, it was the Matcha Red Bean Cake which got me to drop by Beanery & Co. yesterday but it was unavailable. Better luck next time maybe?

24092018 / Healthy Vegetarian Restaurant, Miri

Mom and I were in Miri for a day trip yesterday as I needed to get a treatment done for my bone spur and run some errands at Maybank. As we were feeling hungry after my foot treatment, Mom and I went Sin Yakin for breakfast as I remembered they have a vegetarian stall.

Unfortunately, the vegetarian stall was no longer around. So, we made do with whatever vegetarian option possible. We had mung bean soup, dough fritters and steamed butter buns. Our lunch was at Healthy Vegetarian Restaurant next to Yummy Yang around Boulevard area. My first choice was Qing Xiang Vegetarian located in the next block but they were closing up for afternoon break. My colleague highly recommended me Qing Xiang Vegetarian.

Mom who was feeling hungry already decided to go for their Kolo Mee from the economy fast food counter. I on the other hand wasn’t interested with the leftover food available and ordered Char Kueh Tiaw.

Char Kueh Tiaw | RM6.00

I had specially requested for no beansprout and it came with some mock meat, Chye Sim, Bak Choy and carrots. I loved the texture of the noodles. They were soft and moist. The noodles were stir fried with charred wok taste that I am after. Flavoring was nicely done too and paired well with some cut chilies in soy sauce.

Having good food aside, I was a bit disappointed with the customer service. It seems hard for me to get the attention of the staffs. When we were seated down, no one came to us bearing the menu and I had to personally approach them for one. I raised my hand for attention when I was ready to place my order. Unfortunately, no one came too. I wondered if it was only me or did other patrons faced the same problem like I did?

Of Random Things #186

I had finished watching Sweet Dreams last Sunday afternoon. It was considerably fast in my opinion given it was a 48 episodes drama series. It took me less than two weeks to finish when some series took me a month with the same or less amount of episodes.

I do have to agree with Mom that it was a pretty good series despite some scenes could be a bit exaggerating. If you need a good laugh, this can be one for you to try. Instead of continuing with another Mainland drama series, I decided to start with the South Korean adaption of Suits.

My brain needs a change of scene. I had been watching too much lovey dovey drama series in the past few months and I need something educational this time round. Another series which I considered at the same time was Miss Hammurabi.

Instead of downloading the Chinese subtitled files like the other Korean drama series, I downloaded this one in raw file and English subtitles for each episodes. I found it hard to understand the legal terms with Chinese subtitles. With English subtitles, it was easier for me to understand the legal terms. I had watched a few seasons of the original American version.
