It is my last full day in Singapore today and I am flying back to Brunei tomorrow afternoon. I am almost done with my luggage packing and only down with charging my gadgets. Without further ado, let me show you what I had tried out from Alexandra Village Food Centre on my second day in Singapore.
DOVER ROAD KAI KEE WANTON NOODLE
Stall #01-09, Alexandra Village Food Centre,120 Bukit Merah Lane 1, Singapore 150123
This particular stall is one of the highly recommended ones in majority Singapore food blogs which I had come across. Thankfully, it wasn’t queuing at the time when I was there. There were only two patrons before me. So, it was a short wait.
Wanton Noodle Dry | S$2.50
It came with a good amount of Char Siu and Wanton. Char Siu was good but the Wanton skin was a bit too thick for my liking. You can have the noodles with a spicy or non-spicy base and I went for the spicy base. I liked the texture of the noodle and it was springy. All in all, I would say this is definitely value for money given the portion.
AJ DELIGHTS
Stall #01-82/83, Alexandra Village Food Centre, 120 Bukit Merah Lane 1, Singapore 150123
This is also one of the highly recommended stalls which I came across from some food blogs. This stall specializes in muffins and they have all sorts of flavors. Green Tea Monster caught my attention but I was afraid that it would be dry for my liking and I got Streusel Choc instead.
Streusel Choc S$1.90
I didn’t eat the muffin on the spot but packed away for later in case I got hungry while shopping. LOL! I ended up only eating it when we got home. I placed it in the microwave and heated it up before eating. The muffin was soft and airy. The streusel on the top came with roasted walnuts. I would have liked it better if the muffin came with some chocolate chips as well.
I went Alexandra Village Food Centre twice on the same day for both breakfast and dinner. The said hawker centre is only about five minutes walk from where we live and it was crowded at the time we arrived. After parents were seated, both Sister and I went to order dinner for them.
PHATI & JANE THAI FOOD
Stall #01-21 Alexandra Village Food Center, 120 Bukit Merah Lane 1, Singapore 150120
Thai Basil Pork | S$5.00
The wait for this Thai Basil Pork was long. I think there was a number of patrons before me hence the long waiting time. The original menu was chicken but I requested for pork as Dad had allergy issue at the moment and trying to steer clear from chicken. Dad finished the entire dish aside from the two pieces of chilies. It was good but on the spicy side. If you aren’t a big fan of spicy food, you might want to request for less spicy.
OLD PUNGGOL SATAY
Stall #01-52, Alexandra Village Food Centre, 120 Bukit Merah Lane 1, Singapore 150120
Old Punggol Satay is also one of the highly recommended stalls at Alexandra Village Food Centre. We ordered 10 sticks at 60 cents each. You can request for extra cucumber slices at an additional cost of 50 cents.
Their satay were grilled to order and we were being given this buzzer. It will buzz and vibrate when our order is ready for collection. Ours took more than 20 minutes if my memory serves me well.
For your information, there is a minimum order of 10 sticks. You could combine different meat and make it to 10 sticks. So, we had four each of chicken and pork and two sticks for mutton. They were all moist and tender. I was expecting the pork satay to be tough but it was delightfully not!
The peanut sauce was however on the sweeter side and lacking flavors in my opinion. All I can say is that different countries have their own method in preparing food. It would have been nicer if the peanut dipping sauce contained more peanuts and a spicy kick. However, this is completely subjective to individual preference.
SENG HENG CARROT CAKE
Stall #01-24, Alexandra Village Food Centre, 120 Bukit Merah Lane 1, Singapore 150120
Black Carrot Cake | S$2.50
There was already a queue at the time when I stopped by at the stall. Seng Heng Carrot Cake serves both black and white. I chose the former and requested for mild spiciness as Sister couldn’t take much spicy food as compared to me.
Taste wise, it was good enough for my liking and it had got some charred wok taste that I liked. However, it was slightly on the sweeter side. This was practically my dinner for the night as I polished more than two thirds of it. LOL!
So, this summed up the food which I tried from Alexandra Village Food Centre. More hawker food coming up in the next few days. Do stay tune if you are interested.
