Jennifer and I met up for lunch last Sunday afternoon at Little Audrey’s Café after I picked Mom from the airport. We met around 12:45PM and she was already there at the time I arrived.
Our usual meet up time on a Sunday is after 1PM. It was earlier this time round because she had a facial appointment after lunch. Without further ado, let me show you what we had for lunch the other day!
Longan Red Date Tea | B$4.00
Golden Latte | B$5.50 (caffeine-free)
turmeric, ginger, cinnamon, honey, organic soy milk
You could have guessed what tempted me to try their Golden Latte. They were many reasons to begin with. Most importantly, it was a caffeine-free Latte. Secondly, it came with a few of my favorite ingredients. And lastly, they used organic soy milk instead of regular fresh milk. Taste wise, it was okay in my opinion but could be a bit bitter for some.
Grilled Chicken Sandwich | B$12.90
with caramelized onion, bell pepper, cheese, sliced avocado and honey mustard, served with fries
This was Jennifer’s choice of lunch. She didn’t feel like having a heavy lunch so she went for their Grilled Chicken Sandwich. She had least expected that the portion was this huge. She told me to have half of her Grilled Chicken Sandwich but I was too full with my Tempeh Curry to help her. However, I did helped myself a bit with the fries. No matter how hard I tried to eat clean, I couldn’t say no to fries!
Tempeh Curry | B$14.90
tempura battered tempeh served with chickpeas and vegetable medley cooked in a herbed Japanese-styled curry, and Australian medium-grain brown rice
This was one of the main reasons for my visit to Little Audrey’s Café last Sunday afternoon. When I first saw this dish on their Instagram profile, I was intrigued to try. This is a vegan dish without any meat! The vegetable medley was good in my opinion and the Japanese-styled curry added flavors to it. It also came with some battered onion.
The tempura battered tempeh was the highlight of the dish in my opinion. We agreed that the batter was nicely done and it was crunchy. The tempura batter remained crunchy despite it had cooled down. The tempeh was cut in the form of thick sticks. For a healthier touch, they served with Australian medium-grain brown rice as opposed to the Thai fragrant rice. I am personally not a big fan of Australian medium-grain brown rice.
Salted Caramel Latte Doughnut | B$3.50
The second reason for my visit to Little Audrey’s Café was for this Salted Caramel Latte Doughnut. On my last visit with San Diann, we tried their Blueberry Doughnut and Nutella Cream Cheese Doughnut. To avoid disappointment, I had direct messaged them via Instagram to reserve a piece of their Salted Caramel Latte Doughnut.
Here’s a cross section of how the Salted Caramel Latte Doughnut so that you can have a look how it was in terms of the filling. As you can see in the picture, they were extremely generous with the filling!
The texture was smoother comparatively to this. On first impression upon the first bite, it tasted distinctive of coffee with an aftertaste of cream cheese. Sweetness level was well balanced and I loved the texture of the doughnut as well.
UPDATE: A fellow local foodie on Instagram @jojoeatsbrunei commented and asked if there was any salted caramel taste in the filling. Unfortunately, there wasn’t any taste of it. However, I do think that the salted caramel taste ain’t supposed to be strong in the first place since it was made as Salted Caramel Latte. The focus could be the Latte in my opinion.
After all the questions coming in of the said doughnut, I had decided to make a comparison between my picture and the one posted on @little.audreys. On the picture posted on @little.audreys, I noticed that there were salted caramel sauce on top of the doughnuts whereas there wasn’t any on mine. Therefore, I can assume there there was no taste of salted caramel due to the missing salted caramel sauce on top of mine.
