02122018 / Patisserie Cake Shop

After our coffee session at TWO SONS COFFEE last Sunday afternoon, I didn’t feel full as I had skipped lunch after having a hearty breakfast in the morning. I was craving for some finger foods and fries in particular. We considered going to The Mall for Chips & Dips but shrugged off the idea when we thought of the traffic jam getting into Gadong.

I then suggested Patisserie Cake Shop as I recalled that their fries was one of the best that I had. Shortly after we arrived at Patisserie Cake Shop, it poure cats and dogs outside. It was one of the heaviest downpours in months. Some patrons had to wait in the cafe for the rain to slow down before they could leave so that their cakes don’t get drenched in the rain.

Cheese Fries | B$5.00

french fries topped with spring onion, melted cheese and onion

San Diann and I contemplated between Cheese Fries and French Fries. After much consideration, we decided to go for Cheese Fries as it was pouring heavily outside and we are definitely staying in for a while until the rain stopped.

The first picture honestly didn’t do any justice of the portion of their Cheese Fries. I was extremely shocked to see the portion when it was being placed in front of me. The portion was honestly good enough for three persons. I think I only managed a quarter of the fries and San Diann had to finish the rest.

The fries were well done with a crunchy exterior but soft on the inside kind of texture that I absolutely love. They were topped with a good amount of cheese sauce and mayonnaise. I honestly don’t think the cheese sauce was melted cheese. It tasted more like the store bought cheese sauce from Magnolia. Having said so, their Cheese Fries was definitely good and addictive at the same time.

If you love fries as much as I do, do try the ones from Danes Cafe (non-Halal), Rack & Brew Boutique Cafe and Senja Restaurant. Do let me know if you know of any other places that serve decent straight cut fries. I would normally avoid those served with frozen crinkled cut fries.

Patisserie Fried Chicken | B$4.50

Patisserie special recipe, marinated with 10 different types of herbs

It came with a portion of five medium sized chicken chunks. The chicken chunks were well done and had the crunchy texture that I liked on the skin. However, I wasn’t a huge fan of the meat as they used mostly chicken breasts. It would be nicer if they had used the meat from the chicken whole leg. The flavors did get through to the meat in and out but I do think that they went slightly over generous with the black pepper powder.
