Review: SorRiso Restaurant & Pizzeria

As mentioned in my blog entry yesterday, my colleagues and I would be celebrating a birthday dinner. Birthday lady was suggesting that we go to a place that uses fork and knife as eating utensils. LOL! Hence, I chose SorRiso Restaurant & Pizzeria as I had never been to before.

SorRiso had been around for many years and it was one of the earliest main tenants of Regent Square. Ever since Setia Kenangan 2 was built, the crowd in Regent Square had reduced significantly over the years. I still didn’t like that the area floods when it rains. Most of the parking spaces would be covered in puddles.

SorRiso was quiet at the time when we stepped into the restaurant. I was afraid that they would be packed so I called in advance to secure a table for three and it turned out that we were the only patrons at the time we were there. I wondered if we were the only patrons for the night?

As soon as we were seated, we were being served this basket of snacks to munch on while we scanned through the menu. I am not sure what were these but I can assume that it would be something made of wheat? It was served with a dipping sauce made of eggplants and olives. As I had been taking off wheat from my dietary intake, I didn’t have any of this.

Crema Di Funghi | B$6.75

cream of wild mushroom soup

The soup was creamy in texture with bits of tiny mushroom chunks scattered all over the soup. However, the soup was a bit too creamy for my liking. It had to be consumed when hot or else the consistency would go thicker when cooled down. Both of my colleagues didn’t like the soup so I had to finish the whole thing off.

Pizza Hawaiian | B$15.00

I didn’t have any of the pizza aside from some toppings. The chicken breast was dry in my opinion but the pineapple chunks were sweet. I think they were using the canned pineapples. Both of my colleagues liked the pizza and we only had three slices towards the end of the meal. Mind you, both of them each had a pasta dish. LOL!

Spaghetti Alla Marinara | B$15.75

pasta sauteed with fresh seafood in light spicy salsa and herbs

The birthday lady didn’t like carbonara sauce based pasta so she had Spaghetti Alla Marinara served with linguine instead. The pasta dish came with an overly generous portion of seafood.

Despite that I don’t eat pasta, I did a bit of taste test on the pasta sauce. It had a slight creamy consistency and cooking cream had been added if I am not wrong. The pasta sauce was a bit spicy despite that we had requested for reduced spiciness. So, the original spicy level could be a lot more than what we had yesterday.

Aglio Olio | B$9.90

Pollo Dello Chef | B$18.90

chicken breast stuffed with spinach, pine nuts, sundried tomato and olives, served with sage sauce

As I don’t eat pasta and pizza, this was one of the almost gluten free dishes that I could order from the menu. It was served with two pieces of chicken breast stuffed with spinach, pine nuts, sundried tomatoes and olives. The sage sauce was pretty good but can be a bit salty for some.

The stuffed chicken breast was in between dry and tender. Not exactly a fan but acceptable in my opinion. The stuffed chicken breasts were served with sides of roasted mashed potato and boiled vegetables which consisted of carrots, cauliflower and broccoli. The roasted potato was good and it had the melt-in-the-mouth texture. I finished the boiled vegetables but left out the cauliflower. Cauliflower makes me go bloated all day.

UPDATE

It came to my notice that I have yet given my overall thoughts of their food and customer service at the end of this blog entry. So, here it is if you  are interested!

Verdict: Having tried the food that we ordered, we agreed that they were hit and miss. As I am not eating wheat and gluten, I avoided the pizza and pastas. My colleagues agreed that the pastas were average and they didn’t leave a WOW impression. However, the pizza was good. Please give their pizza a try if you happened to try out SorRiso. The Pollo Dello Chef was okay in my opinion but definitely not something that I would order again if I return in the near future.

On the bright side, I loved their customer service. They were very efficient and attentive to our requests. The young Chinese lady who attended to us was patient enough to explain what we didn’t understand of the menu. In overall, we may not have been fully satisfied with the food but the customer service did make up for it.
