17022019 / Sweet Nonya Delights Cafe

Mom and I were out two Sunday ago as she wanted to buy a new phone. We got the deed done fast and furious. LOL! I think we were out of the shop in about half an hour, including installation and whatnot. I was feeling hungry as we were waiting for the phone to be ready.

I wanted to drop by TWO SONS COFFEE but Mom wasn’t keen on cakes and Western coffees as much as I do. As we were already in Kiulap area, I decided to drop by Sweet Nonya Delights Cafe as it had been a while since I last been there.

Pumpkin Kueh | B$0.80 & Kuih Lapis | B$0.80

Mom commented that the Pumpkin Kueh was good. Both flavors and seasonings were very well executed. I had more of the Kuih Lapis. It was too sweet for my liking and tasted strong of coconut milk. The layers weren’t strong in coloring, which was a good thing.

Kuching Laksa | B$5.00

As I had been avoiding wheat/gluten, I had requested for Bee Hoon instead of yellow noodle. I was served the latter but they were nice enough to make a replacement with the right choice of noodle.

Served with Bee Hoon, thinly sliced omelette, shredded chicken and prawns in a coconut milk infused Laksa gravy. The Laksa gravy came with a hint of sweetness and it could be from the coconut milk. It was not as spicy as I hoped for but good enough to suffice my craving at the time. Mom also added that this didn’t taste like the Laksa which she used to have in Kuching.

22022019 / Happy Cream & Co. Cafe

I had been craving for ice-cream since two weeks ago and I finally got my craving fixed on Friday evening after dinner. Thankfully, the cafe wasn’t very packed and our dessert was served very shortly after.

Chocolate Orange / Cookie & Cream | B$8.00

I ordered a Belgian waffle with two scoops of their premium handcrafted ice-cream. We had Chocolate Orange topped with another scoop of Cookie & Cream. I had never tried their Cookie & Cream before and I was impressed.

Cookie & Cream came with a generous amount of crushed Oreos. The level of sweetness was a bit over my ordinary threshold but I’ll make an exception once in a while. Chocolate Orange was as good as I remembered but melted relatively quicker than Cookie & Cream. I was surprised that Chocolate Orange made a good combo with Cookie & Cream.

09022019 / Llao Llao

On my last visit to Singapore in October, I didn’t get to try Llao Llao. The said franchise has yet made it’s way to Miri or Brunei. The nearest to me is in Kota Kinabalu (KK). Sister didn’t feel like having frozen yogurt on that day so I ordered a small portion and shared with Mom.

Crunchy Chocolate | RM11.20

I wanted dark chocolate syrup but they ran out of it. I made do Crunchy Chocolate which was Ovomaltine. It tasted like malted chocolate syrup with Milo powder. It was good but can be overly sweet when you finished the whole thing. I noticed that Llao Llao’s frozen yogurt was on the sweeter side compared to before.

09022019 / Tealive, Suria Sabah

Before our return to Brunei from Kota Kinabalu (KK) earlier this month, we dropped by Tealive in Suria Sabah after lunch at Ichizo Ramen. Tealive used to be Chatime if I am not wrong. The Taiwanese franchise had ceased operation in Malaysia and replaced with Tealive by the local management.

The nearest Tealive to me is the one in Miri which I had never been to. During my holiday in KK, I was craving for boba milk tea. There were quite a handful of boba milk tea outlets in KK but most of them weren’t in within walking distance. Tealive is conveniently located in Suria Sabah.

Signature Brown Sugar Pearl Milk Tea | RM6.90

Requested for 0% sugar level since the boba were cooked with brown sugar syrup. Much to my surprise, it was a bit too sweet for my liking. The boba were overcooked and they turned mushy. I like my boba with a chewy texture.

Of Random Things #217

Mom cooked a feast the next day we came back from Kota Kinabalu (KK) earlier this month. It was also the day when Sister would be flying back to Singapore. The food on the table may looked a lot but some of them were leftovers before our departure to KK.

Featured in the picture above were egg coated pork rolls, fish maw soup, braised pork belly and blanched Kangkung with oyster sauce. Dad had planted some butterfly pea flower in our garden hence we had been having blue pea rice ever since.
