Last Sunday was spent pampering myself before Chinese New Year. I went for manicure and pedicure session in the morning and hair rebonding in the afternoon. I had some extra time to kill before my appointment at 12:30PM. So, I decided to go for an early lunch at Kaizen Sushi Waterfront as it had been a while since I had been there.
As it was still early, the restaurant wasn’t as packed as I anticipated but there were a couple of long tables being occupied by a big group of patrons. As I was on my own, I was being ushered to a table for two overlooking the view of Kampung Ayer. It was quite scenic if you don’t mind the brownish color of the river water. LOL!
I ordered myself three light bites as I just had breakfast not long ago. I wanted something to munch on as my hair rebonding would take hours. Without further ado, let me show you what I had for lunch the other day!
Alaska Maki | B$4.50
This is not my usual to order dish when at Kaizen Sushi Waterfront. Surprisingly, the sight of avocado, salmon and cream cheese appealed to me when I was looking at it on the menu. The said Maki is seaweed roll covered with rice on the outside and filled with avocado, cream cheese and salmon. There were toasted white sesame seeds on top of the rice too.
The pairing of salmon with avocado and cream cheese was good in my opinion. The tangy taste from the cream cheese complimented the salmon. I am not a big fan of cream cheese in sushi but this was surprisingly good for a change.
Unatama Maki | B$4.50
Like the Alaska Maki, this is not something that I would order when having Japanese food. I like grilled eel myself but maybe not as much as Sister does. The tamago was nicely done with a hint of sweetness. The grilled eel didn’t come with a melt-in-the-mouth kind of texture.
Spicy Maguro Temaki | B$3.60
I wasn’t a fan of hand roll, also known as Temaki in Japanese until few years ago. One of my favourite dishes at Kaizen Sushi Waterfront is their Spicy Maguro Temaki. You could choose in between salmon or tuna. I prefer the latter over the former at any time when having this. The cubed tuna were mixed with a spicy mayonnaise blend. If you love both spicy and tuna, do give this a try!
