29032019 / Dynasty Restaurant

Dinner yesterday was with Jennifer, CY and King at Dynasty Restaurant located on the lobby floor of The Centrepoint Hotel in Gadong. Parking space was limited as there was a Martin Yan’s culinary event at the Goldstone Ballroom. Thankfully, I managed to grab one of the last few parking spaces but located quite a distance away from the service lift to the hotel.

Without further ado, let me show you what we had for dinner yesterday evening!

Watermelon Juice | B$6.00

Braised Fish Maw Soup with Assorted Seafood | B$9.50 (per bowl)

delicate fish maw stewed with the classic Chinese flavors of black mushrooms, shredded water chestnuts and fresh seafood

This was pretty good to be honest. It was served with a good amount of soft textured fish maw and other ingredients. I liked that the texture of the soup wasn’t thick and glue-y. In fact, it was just nice and bursting with flavors. An extra dose of black vinegar definitely brought the flavors to the next level.

Fragrant Fried Rice with Salted Fish & Anchovies (S) | B$14.00

a robust dish bursting with flavor and textures from crispy fried salted fish, anchovies, spicy bird’s eye chilies, fragrant spices and crunchy shallots

Does this look bursting with flavors to you? This was originally served as an ordinary Fragrant Fried Rice until we prompted the server that it didn’t look like what we ordered. The dish was brought back to the kitchen and it came out with salted fish but not a single anchovy in sight!

If we were to rate it based on what we ordered, this wouldn’t pass our slightest expectation but it definitely makes a good plate of Egg Fried Rice! We ordered in the smallest portion and it fed four of us well.

Fried Boneless Chicken with Mango & Thai Sauce (H) | B$19.00

We wanted to order their Chef’s Recommendation from the chicken section but it was unavailable. We had this instead, served with battered and deep fried boneless chicken leg, drizzled with shredded mangoes and sliced red onions in a sweet Thai chili sauce. It was an appetizing dish to kick start our dinner but the flour batter was thick hence the dense skin when cooled.

Homemade Beancurd Combination Platter (S) | B$14.00

This had been my highly anticipated dish of all. It was served in two ways – steamed and deep fried. The beancurd didn’t look like homemade to me, especially the steamed one with dried shrimp toppings. Nevertheless, both were good and full of flavors.

Crispy Chinese Pancake in Lotus Paste | B$8.00

Our last dish for the meal and it was dessert. They were flaky in texture and oily at the same time. The lotus paste was good but the sweetness can be quite overbearing for some.

So, this pretty much summed my food experience at Dynasty Hotel. We ended dinner at around 9:30PM with bursting tummies!
