21012018 / Mituo Vege Restaurant

After our high tea session with Jennifer and some of the ex-classmates at t-Lounge by Dilmah, Sister and I headed for dinner with parents at Mituo Vege Restaurant. Dad is trying to cut down on meat consumption. So, we opted for vegetarian cuisine. My usual go-to restaurant for vegetarian cuisine is Tien Sing Restaurant but Mom likes Mituo’s Mixed Vegetables Curry better.

The four of us went in separate cars. Sister actually suggested that we drive home to pick parents for dinner. Despite Brunei is a small country, it is quite out of the way to drive back home from Batu Bersurat and then off to Batu Satu. We arrived Mituo Vege Restaurant 10 minutes ahead of parents and we manned the task of ordering.

Parents complained that we ordered too much but we ended up finishing all aside from the broth of Mixed Vegetables Curry. Without further ado, let me show you what we had for dinner the other evening. I didn’t have the price list as I accidentally deleted the pictures of menu which I had snapped the other day and Sister happened not to keep the receipt either.

Claypot Tofu

Cereal Tofu

Sister was intrigued to try their Cereal Tofu. So, we ordered one in the smallest portion. Honestly speaking, I preferred the Cereal Tofu from Tien Sing Restaurant. Tien Sing’s version came with a lemony taste and their Tofu are house made. The ones from Mituo tasted like store bought.

Sambal Okra

You can opt from variety of cooking styles for Okra but I chose to have ours cooked with Sambal. The ones I saw on the menu was Okra with Oyster Sauce which I think can be rather bland. Dad found the Sambal Okra rather spicy so Sister and I polished most of the Sambal Okra.

Sweet & Sour Chicken

Mixed Vegetables Curry

Having tried so many versions of Mixed Vegetables Curry, I still prefer this from Mituo Vege Restaurant. However, I did had my fair share of disappointing ones here at Mituo before during Chinese New Year from couple of years ago.

01012018 / Tien Sing Restaurant

Sorry for the short hiatus. I had been busy with work recently and went to bed early at night. Having said that, I still managed to get to watch at least half an episode of Black everyday. LOL!

Before Sister left for Singapore the other day, she cleared at least 70% of my skincare stash. They all went into the dumpster and I’m left with the ones that I had recently bought. I’m going to have a few skincare review blog entries lined up for the next few days. So, do stay tune if you are interested!

On the day when Sister left for Singapore, I had breakfast on my own after dropping her off at the airport. As her returning flight to Singapore was an early one, we left home early so that she can make it on time. I had breakfast at Tien Sing Restaurant as it was the fifteenth day of the lunar month.

Soy Milk | B$1.00

If you want something homemade and fresh, do try their soy milk. You can have it unsweetened too! Most of the vegetarian restaurants here in Brunei serve fresh homemade soy milk.

Kueh Tiaw Mamak | B$3.50

The original version is cooked with egg noodles but I’m more of a Kueh Tiaw person. I was supposed to be on a Vegetarian Jain diet that day but I had totally forgotten to request for no egg in my noodles until I am almost halfway done with my breakfast. If you like something sweet, sour and yet spicy at the same time, do try their Mee Mamak or Kueh Tiaw Mamak if you are like me.

21122017 / Tien Sing Restaurant

I think I had frequented Tien Sing Restaurant quite often in within these few weeks. Mom is away for the weekend so there’s no one to cook at home. I do cook but then I’m plain lazy to do so and it’s easier to do takeaways. I don’t mind cooking but it’s only cleaning part which puts me off. That’s the reason why I had been holding off baking for quite some time.

Tien Sing Restaurant serves fast food on most weekdays but not on Thursdays as they are serving a special dish on every Thursday. It is their vegetarian version of Nasi Lemak! I had never tried the vegetarian version of Nasi Lemak before today so I’m intrigued to know how it differs from the real deal.

Nasi Lemak | B$4.50

coconut rice, mutton rendang, sambal chili, shredded potato acar

Their Nasi Lemak comes with mock mutton rendang and mock anchovies. I’m not sure what are the mock anchovies made of but they have a crunchy texture. The acar was crunchy too and the sambal chili was super hot in my opinion. I like spicy sambal chili but this one was above my threshold. LOL! The mutton rendang was average in my opinion.

Tien Sing Restaurant will be open on New Year but closing on the following day.

12122017 / Tien Sing Restaurant

I frequented Tien Sing Restaurant yesterday for dinner before grocery shopping at Supa Save. My first intention was actually Flour & Butter Cafe as I wanted to try their newly launched Tom Yam Pasta but decided not to as I’m not sure if consuming seafood would again trigger the pain on my shoulder blade. So, off I went for dinner at Tien Sing Restaurant since I’m in the area.

Singapore Popiah | B$1.50

I don’t usually order this much for dinner but this tempted me when I saw another table of patrons having it. You can choose the level of spiciness and I requested mild spiciness. Their spicy sauce can be real spicy if you requested it hot.

Sweet & Sour Chicken | B$5.00

I was surprised with the portion given when this was being served in front of me. The portion was slightly too big for me but I managed to finish off the mock chicken but leaving out the pineapple and half of the rice. I think there were at least 10 pieces of the mock chicken. The sweet and sour gravy was sour enough to my liking with tad bit of spiciness.

10122017 / Tien Sing Restaurant

Upon arriving Bandar last Sunday, Mom and I headed straight for lunch as our last meal was breakfast at 88 Cafe in Miri. The most convenient restaurant along the way is May Fang Restaurant but I’m not keen as the place could be packed with lunch crowd. So, I suggested Tien Sing Restaurant instead so that we can also order takeaway for Dad as dinner.

The restaurant wasn’t busy at the time we walked in with only a table occupied by a family of three. We were being given menu booklets to browse through but nothing seems to appeal to me. LOL! So, the waitress who attended us recommended their Vinegar Pork Leg but the vegetarian version. We decided to go with her recommendation and ordered another side dish.

Tofu Rojak | B$3.50

If my memory serves me well, Tien Sing Restaurant serves three kinds of Rojak. We chose this as it looked the closest to the real deal. Tofu Rojak was served with sliced cucumbers, bean sprouts, pineapples, jicama and crushed peanuts tossed in vegetarian Rojak paste.

Vinegar Pork Leg | B$5.50

Their Vinegar Pork Leg wasn’t authentic enough in my opinion. Not because of the mock pork leg but the gravy itself. Mom and I agreed that both the sourness and sweetness of the gravy weren’t well balance. The gravy tasted spicy due to the addition of dried chili when the real deal uses crushed ginger.
