15052018 / Tien Sing Restaurant

As it was the first day of lunar calendar month yesterday, I was a full vegetarian for the whole day. When it comes to vegetarian restaurants, the choices are pretty limited in my opinion. We only had three vegetarian restaurants at the moment. One had closed down last year despite that it hadn’t operate for long before it ceased operation for good.

It had been a while since I last dined at Tien Sing Restaurant aside from the occasional takeaway twice in a month. I had been going to Pureland Vegetarian House previously as it was more convenient location wise for grocery shopping after dinner.

Since I don’t have anything to do after dinner, I decided to go Tien Sing Restaurant for dinner this time round. I even thought of heading to Flour & Butter Cafe after dinner if my tummy could still accommodate dessert. I forfeited the idea and headed straight home after dinner.

Butter Abalone Mushroom with Rice | B$6.00

I was craving for something made out of deep fried egg stripes and decided to go for their Butter Abalone Mushroom with Rice. The portion was surprisingly a lot bigger than what I expected.

When the server was carrying this plate to my table, I was wondering if she had gotten my order wrongly because the Butter Abalone Mushroom towered the rice! My picture may not justify the overly generous portion. But trust me, the portion was really huge.

Taste wise, it was good in my opinion but I don’t think I would be going back for the Butter Abalone Mushroom. I’m not saying that it was bad but I am just not used to having so much greasy food in one plate. I would definitely go for their Sweet & Sour Abalone Mushroom when craving for deep fried Abalone Mushroom.

04052018 / Pureland Vegetarian House

Dinner tonight was at Pureland Vegetarian House again. My first choice was Bee Hwa Restaurant for their Pork Rib Rice but the restaurant was packed to the brim with not even a table vacant. Pureland Vegetarian House was pretty packed too but there were at least two round tables vacant at the time I walked in.

I chose to have dinner around Kiulap as I wanted to do some grocery shopping at Hua Ho, Kiulap. I wanted to get a tray of XL sized eggs for my chiffon bakes but they were all sold out. So, I left and went to Supa Save, Mabohai instead for the eggs.

Without further ado, let me show you my dinner for tonight!

Sweet & Sour Chicken | B$4.00

The portion may look little in the picture above. Trust me, the portion was a lot more than it appeared to be and definitely value for money. The mock chicken meat was overly generous in my opinion. It would be nicer if it came with more greens. I would highly recommend their Sweet & Sour Chicken if you wanted something simple.

28042018 / Pureland Vegetarian House

Went dinner with two of my colleagues yesterday evening after work. Our first choice was Bee Hwa Restaurant in Kiulap but the restaurant was so packed. There wasn’t even one table vacant. Most of their roasted menu were sold out as well. So, we went for vegetarian food at Pureland Vegetarian House located a few shops away from Bee Hwa Restaurant.

My colleagues and I were trying to cut down on gluten intake so we went minimal with food that contains wheat. But what’s vegetarian cuisine without wheat products? LOL! We didn’t order any drinks but ordered plain water only. I brought my own drinking water stored in a thermal flask. We ordered everything in the smallest portion and they fed the three of us just fine.

Sweet & Sour Fish | B$6.00

The mock fish, made of wheat and wrapped in seaweed was good. It tasted almost like a real fish. Aside from the mock fish, this dish came with generous portion of greens too! The pineapples were sweet and I wondered if they used store bought canned pineapples.

Claypot Taufu | B$6.00

The three of us contemplated between Sizzling Taufu and Claypot Taufu. We settled for the latter as the former may be too heaty. We regretted and thought we should have gone for Japanese Tofu instead. Reason being the deep fried beancurd in our Claypot Taufu weren’t the freshest and tasted tad sour.

Stir Fry Hong Kong Kailan | B$4.00

We had a hard time deciding which vegetable dish to order. I wanted Stir Fry Eggplants but it wasn’t something that I would eat for dinner though. So, we resorted to a simple Stir Fry Hong Kong Kailan topped with crunchy bites that almost resembled garlic.

Fried Rice with Egg | B$3.50

We ordered two plates of white rice in the first place. But when we saw the next table of patrons having this, we decided to order one to share among the three of us. We loved it. The rice weren’t wet but grainy. The mock pork luncheon meat was good too. The texture was almost like the real deal.

21012018 / Mituo Vege Restaurant

After our high tea session with Jennifer and some of the ex-classmates at t-Lounge by Dilmah, Sister and I headed for dinner with parents at Mituo Vege Restaurant. Dad is trying to cut down on meat consumption. So, we opted for vegetarian cuisine. My usual go-to restaurant for vegetarian cuisine is Tien Sing Restaurant but Mom likes Mituo’s Mixed Vegetables Curry better.

The four of us went in separate cars. Sister actually suggested that we drive home to pick parents for dinner. Despite Brunei is a small country, it is quite out of the way to drive back home from Batu Bersurat and then off to Batu Satu. We arrived Mituo Vege Restaurant 10 minutes ahead of parents and we manned the task of ordering.

Parents complained that we ordered too much but we ended up finishing all aside from the broth of Mixed Vegetables Curry. Without further ado, let me show you what we had for dinner the other evening. I didn’t have the price list as I accidentally deleted the pictures of menu which I had snapped the other day and Sister happened not to keep the receipt either.

Claypot Tofu

Cereal Tofu

Sister was intrigued to try their Cereal Tofu. So, we ordered one in the smallest portion. Honestly speaking, I preferred the Cereal Tofu from Tien Sing Restaurant. Tien Sing’s version came with a lemony taste and their Tofu are house made. The ones from Mituo tasted like store bought.

Sambal Okra

You can opt from variety of cooking styles for Okra but I chose to have ours cooked with Sambal. The ones I saw on the menu was Okra with Oyster Sauce which I think can be rather bland. Dad found the Sambal Okra rather spicy so Sister and I polished most of the Sambal Okra.

Sweet & Sour Chicken

Mixed Vegetables Curry

Having tried so many versions of Mixed Vegetables Curry, I still prefer this from Mituo Vege Restaurant. However, I did had my fair share of disappointing ones here at Mituo before during Chinese New Year from couple of years ago.

01012018 / Tien Sing Restaurant

Sorry for the short hiatus. I had been busy with work recently and went to bed early at night. Having said that, I still managed to get to watch at least half an episode of Black everyday. LOL!

Before Sister left for Singapore the other day, she cleared at least 70% of my skincare stash. They all went into the dumpster and I’m left with the ones that I had recently bought. I’m going to have a few skincare review blog entries lined up for the next few days. So, do stay tune if you are interested!

On the day when Sister left for Singapore, I had breakfast on my own after dropping her off at the airport. As her returning flight to Singapore was an early one, we left home early so that she can make it on time. I had breakfast at Tien Sing Restaurant as it was the fifteenth day of the lunar month.

Soy Milk | B$1.00

If you want something homemade and fresh, do try their soy milk. You can have it unsweetened too! Most of the vegetarian restaurants here in Brunei serve fresh homemade soy milk.

Kueh Tiaw Mamak | B$3.50

The original version is cooked with egg noodles but I’m more of a Kueh Tiaw person. I was supposed to be on a Vegetarian Jain diet that day but I had totally forgotten to request for no egg in my noodles until I am almost halfway done with my breakfast. If you like something sweet, sour and yet spicy at the same time, do try their Mee Mamak or Kueh Tiaw Mamak if you are like me.
